Today’s Wellness Wednesday focus: Stretching
Stretching seems to be an often-forgotten aspect of overall health. This post is hoping to change that! Stretching is an essential part of every health plan. According to Fit Day, daily stretching will help improve, flexibility, range of motion, balance, and coordination. Stretching, a flexibility exercise, actually has powerful stress-reducing abilities. And who doesn’t need some stress relief?
- Reduce bouncing – hold stretches for 15-60 seconds, repeat 3-4 times. Key in mind the advice you get in yoga class: Listen to your body! Stretch to where it is uncomfortable, then back off a little bit and hold.
- Stretch at least three times a week, for about 10-20 minutes.
- Warm up first! Stretching cold muscles can actually cause tears, so always warm up briefly before stretching. Warm ups can include jogging in place, a walk around the block, or jumping jacks.
- Breathe! Take deep breaths while you are stretching. Never hold your breath!
