Today’s Wellness Wednesday focus: meditation
Meditation: a practice where an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself.
Ok, that definition is a bit wordy. Yoga International’s definition is a little easier to swallow: meditation is the precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from the normal waking state.
Meditation is more than just sitting quietly and trying not to think about anything. It is an exercise for the mind to promote awareness and relaxation. There are a ton of benefits to regular meditation:
- Relieves stress
- Reduces aging
- Improves concentration
- Increases happiness
- Benefits cardiovascular and immune health
- Lowers blood pressure
- Helps with weight loss
- Increases productivity
